At one point I really liked hummus. I was not a big fan of it – but I had no problem eating it.
So, one day we decide to make hummus at home. We bought the ingredients from the grocery and we prepared it at home. Every time we want prepare something interesting, we prepare it as written on the food blog. So we did with the humus. We followed the steps and everything was ok. I was really excited about it and it I ate with great relish.
But the next day I was so sick that I couldn’t get out of the bed.
And guess what? It was from the hummus.
Logical, from that moment I don’t want to see in front of me anything related to hummus.
The last experience with that dish was plain bad for me.
This is what I want to talk with you about:
People don’t hate your brand because is ugly, because you have an ugly logo or because you don’t communicate on social media. People hate your brand because they had a bad experience with it at some moment.
Or there is another example that I want to tell you: people don’t hate banner ads. Wait?! What? Exactly. People don’t hate banner ads, they hate the experience with it. They use adblock so that they can block the bad experience banner ad. And guess what? They will also block the good experience banner ad. That’s why there are million of users who use ad blocks – to get away from the bad experienced banner ad.
This is why Facebook gained a lot of confidence from the billion of users it has right now – they just gave them the best experience they can have when they want to connect with somebody. This is why Instagram is the best photo app in the store – because they gave the user the best experience they can have with it.
Today every marketer thinks that if they create content the user will come to their platform and will buy their product. But guess what? Even if you create content, but you don’t create the best experience for the user while he or she is consuming your content – you are on the same page with the blocked ad.
I strongly believe that marketing today is more than just packing a product in different ways, be it content marketing, native ads or social media marketing. I believe that the best marketing we can do is to create a reliable experience with the product and anything we released on behalf of the product.
