How To Get Your First 500 Followers on Slideshare

Slideshare is the most powerful social media network when it comes to visual marketing. There are more than 70 million professionals, with over 18 million uploads in 40 different content categories and today it is one of the top 100 most-visited websites in the world.

According to ComScore, 100 equals the average traffic to a particular site within a specific demographic. SlideShare has five times more traffic from business owners than other popular websites.

So now that we know how big SlideShare is and how important it is for the B2B industry, let’s talk about how you can get your first 100 followers.

But first, let me explain why you need to start using Slideshare.

Slideshare is a great way to cultivate different opportunities whether you upload your content or you curate it. You can also reach new audiences by building your reputation using compelling visual content such as presentations, documents, infographics or video.

And for all of you wanting to work on their SEO, I look at SlideShare as a SEO muscle power that can reach over 70 million professional users.

I uploaded 14 Slideshare Presentations which gained more than 271.000 views and got featured several times on the Homepage.

So, for me, SlideShare is not only a tool that helps me build my brand but also a way to reach a new audience.

After reading this article you will know how to get your first 500 followers and what to do to win more with SlideShare.

1. Set up your account

The first step you should do when you want to get your first 100 followers on SlideShare is to sing-up to the platform.

You can also easily Sign-up with your LinkedIn account or Facebook account. After that, you go to your profile details and start optimizing your personal details.

Upload your profile picture. Make sure that you use this picture on your every social media network so people can easily recognize you.

Then continue with your personal information such as: account type, name, gender, occupation, organization/workplace, about, website and industry.

After you have completed all the fields, don’t forget to hit the “Save” button before you go to the next point.

Then you go to “Contact Details” and fill in the information:

Here you can update it later with your Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Google+ account. Also, you can type in your Street Address, City, Region, Country, Zip/Postal Code and Phone (and check if you want it to be displayed on your profile).

Using relevant information in personal information can help your brand achieve trust in your industry which gets users to click on your follow button.

2. Upload Relevant Content

SlideShare is a great network if you use all of its features. So after you update your personal information and your profile is ready, make sure you are prepared to upload your first content.

But if you don’t know how to design a compelling SlideShare presentation, I already wrote some tips and tricks that will help you make the best of your work on my blog. Make sure you read it and start practicing until you have a great presentation.

So when you’re ready, hit the “Upload” button found in the top right corner.

That takes you to a landing page where you can easily upload your presentation:

You can select a file from your computer or upload it from the cloud (DropBox, Google Drive, Box, OneDrive, Gmail or Link).

After uploading your content, make sure you optimize it. Write a great headline that will benefit your presentation. Then don’t forget to add a short description about it. Choose the category, make it public and use relevant tags.

After you finish with the optimization, you can hit the publish button and your presentation will be on your profile.

3. Share it on Social Media

It is no doubt that social media is a big playground for the digital marketing industry. Whether we talk about the almighty Facebook, or the second search platform YouTube or even the big players on the mobile platform such as Instagram, Snapchat or Twitter.

You can easily share your presentation on social media from Slideshare.

All you have to do is go on your presentation page and hit the “Share” button under your presentation and your sharing options will pop up.

From here, you can share it on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google Plus. Also, you can send it via email, embed on your website or use the link to share it wherever else you’d like.

Don’t underestimate the power of this presentation and make sure that your message is powerful enough to make the other social media users click it.

This way you can achieve more views and followers on your Slideshare.

4. Write a blog post about it

Re-posting your content is a great way to create a content for your brand. Even if you write a blog post that you turn into a SlideShare presentation or the other way around.

For example, if you are a public speaker and you recently held a speech at a conference. You had your presentation and you saw the crowd loved it (people took a photo of your slides or took notes during your presentation). Why not engage with them on your personal blog too? Take your presentation, upload it on Slideshare and then write a blog post about that topic, about the conference and what’s your opinion on this topic. Then embed your Slideshare into your blog post and share it on social media using the conference hashtag or send it over to the organizers.

How you embed a presentation into your blog?

Open your presentation on your Slideshare and hit the “Share” button (the same way you did it to share it on social media).

Then go to the “Embed” field and copy paste the embed code you receive from it:

You can choose your size and also to choose which Slide do you want to start. After you copy the embed code, you go to your blog and paste it wherever your platform allows it.

Simple as that.

Don’t forget to ask your readers to follow you on SlideShare if you think that you can offer them more valuable information on this platform.

5. Work with influencers and partners

Influencer marketing started to be a must for almost every brand strategy. If you go on Google Trends you will see a tremendous interest starting  with 2012 and 2013.

Why? Because there are influencers who care about their community, who talk to their community and provide valuable information when it’s something related to their niche.

For example, if you are a brand in the cooking niche and you created a Slideshare presentation where you talk about an interesting topic on your area of expertise – for example, “how to stay away from high cholesterol through diet”. So you have a great presentation where you presented all the risks, all the scenarios and all the solutions for the problem.

So now what you have to do is connect with influencers (bloggers, publishers) from the cooking industry or from the medicine industry and let them know about your presentation and how it will benefit their audience.

Even if they don’t mention your brand or give add a link to your website, if they are using the embed code from your SlideShare account, that’s more than enough.

If you want to know how to start connecting with influencers and make them promote your Slideshare I recommend you this article about the 6 clever ways to get influencers to link to you.

Conclusion

Here you have 5 simple steps on starting to grow your SlideShare followers. Start with this and you will see how your SlideShare number of followers will get bigger with every single action you take.

Don’t forget that you can also upgrade to SlideShare PRO and you can start collecting email leads that will help your email marketing get stronger.

Stay close to your brand and make sure you deliver the valuable information your audience from SlideShare wants.
