Can Marketers Design? My 15 Logos in 15 Days Challenge

You’d think that this kind of article would suit designer’s blog,  not a marketer’s right? Well, it seems that even marketers can design. Or maybe the ones who have some background in design or just the ones who have some minor crush on apps like Adobe Photoshop, Sketch or Corel Draw.

The first time I opened a design program was way back when Photoshop was only for liquifying your friends faces and edit some photos of  your crush’s in high school. My first income from design was when a guy needed a logo for his transportation company. I wrote his name with a different font, I chose a color, used a custom shape and that was all.

But after years and years I found out that I don’t want to be a designer, even if I like to read some design articles and talk with other designers, instead of this I went on the marketing path.

As every marketer who wants to do something new, something different and crazy I thought about starting a 15 days challenge and design some marketing logos.

Marketing logos?

Yes, marketing logos. I create content every day, I consume content every day and I can see that there are a few main keywords every marketer uses every day. So I took some of these keywords and made a design for each of them. What if SEO had a logo? What font should the link building logo have? What graphic elements would fit the PPC?

So I started designing these logos.

After a few designs, I asked a few of my design colleagues and friends about this idea and the had 2 types of reactions:

  • Wow, interesting.
  • You should align that and use that color and that font.

And I was like “Well, I don’t want to make them perfect. Because I’m a marketer, not a designer” So I chose to not modify the designs and leave them exactly how I created them in the first place. Without any other designer’s touch.

No, I’m not a designer and I don’t design logos. This is only a simple project which I took as a challenge.

  • What tools I used?
  • Adobe Illustrator
