If everything you’re doing out of passion couldn’t be measured, would you still do it?

I was wondering the other day:

“Everything you’re doing here, on your blog, are you doing it from passion or for traffic?”

I admit, here and now, that for a very long time I had an obsession with traffic. I used to check my traffic at least 20 times on a daily basis. I used to write an article, upload it on the 3 social media channels (facebook, twitter and google+) and then wait for traffic to increase.

At that time, if at the end of the day my article was read only by 25 people I would get angry. Angry at myself, at my blog, at the whole social media system and then complain to the people around me ‘til the next day when I would start everything over. ‘Til the next day when I would click the “New Post” button again and write another article.

Now let me ask you:

“If everything you’re doing out of passion couldn’t be measured, would you still do it?”

Would you still write on your blog everyday (because that’s how you get a successful blog, right?) if you could only measure your traffic once a month? Would you still post pictures, statuses and videos on Facebook every day on behalf of your brand if you could only count your likes at the end of the month? Would you still post on Instagram if you could only count your likes and comments once a month? Would you still organize events if you could only count your participants the day before the event?

I know, I know…you cannot do stuff without measuring because you have to know if the investment is worth it. I am a measuring adept in every way, but if passion has to be measured, can it still be called passion?

The questions could go on forever, but only you have the answer.

You know I’m not interested in motivational stuff and Ghandi or Maxwell type articles, but maybe this question will help you realize if doing something just out of passion is still worth it.
