What Did Instagram Teach Me?

I started using Instagram ever since it was launched for Android. Because I owned a lousy HTC Wildfire S I had to wait until Kevin & Co thought about the poor Android users. And in the night of Instagram’s Android launch I couldn’t help but get it on my phone. And of course, since I had nothing to photograph at the moment I had to wait for the next day.

And the next day, at the office of a national corporation, I still had nothing to photograph. Driven by the desire to upload something to Instragram I managed to snap the first photo.
It was nonsense. A large zero. It did not mean anything. It was just a pack of napkins.
Still, everything began from nothing, from a zero.

As time passed, I started getting the hand of photography and tried capturing every moment I though was interesting. I was using a ton of hashtags just for getting followers and I was using the weirdest filters. I was following other people and I was copying them. But we, as people learn from our mistakes and I started giving up the pile of hashtags, violent filters and started focusing on capturing instant moments from around me.

Because in the end this is what Instagram is all about, capturing instant moments from around you.

Instagram taught me to actually notice moments around me, analyze them and really think about whether or not they’re worth sharing.

Sometimes I stop, snap a picture and keep going. People look at you funny if you stop to take a picture with your phone. Other times I keep going with the image just in my head.

Sometimes it’s ok to be selfish!
